Berinternet dengan Puppy Linux

Salah satu kebutuhan yang harus dipenuhi oleh suatu distro OS Linux adalah kemudahan untuk berinternet baik menggunakan jalur LAN ataupun dial-up lewat kabel telepon (ADSL), jaringan GSM (GPRS, Edge, HSDPA) maupun CDMA (CDMA2000 1X, EVDO). Berikut artikel tentang bagaimana berinternet menggunakan dial-up secara umum di Distro Puppy Linux OS. Mudah-mudahan bermanfaat.

Seperti distro Linux lainnya, Puppy Linux menggunakan aplikasi wvdial (beserta library pendukungnya seperti wvstream) sebagai back-end aplikasinya. Jadi, kalau Anda sudah pernah melakukan dialup networking dengan distro lain, misalnya UBuntu, SuSE, Anda tidak akan kesulitan untuk mensetup dialup ini di Puppy Linux OS. Yang beda adalah aplikasi front-endnya, yaitu GUI berbasis X untuk memudahkan kita untuk mensetup dan melakukan koneksi ke dial-up server.

Firefox-3.5-i686.pet Has Been Uploaded

Firefox-3.5-i686.pet file for Puppy Linux OS has been uploaded.

Currently, it runs on PuppyLinux-4.20, but it may run on the others version.

Click firefox-3.5-i686.pet for download.

Install it by either using Puppy Package Manager or rox-filer. Firefox icon should be appeared on Internet menu. Click it to run firefox.

Note: You will need libdbus_glib to run firefox (work for puppy-3 and 4.20).

Stable Firefox-3.5 on Puppy Linux OS

Firefox-3.5 is stable on Puppy Linux OS distro!

With 3.0.10 and 3.0.11 version, Firefox sometimes crashed. It exited without any notification what was going the failure. May be it was because of its incompatible installed add-ons (hehehe, I’ve installed many add-ons on it) or Firefox itself that has a bug.

Firefox-3.0.10 Installation on Puppy Linux OS (en)

PuppyLinuxOS-4.20 distro came with Mozilla SeaMonkey-1.1.15 as the default browser. Indeed, sea monkey is very nicely integrated with the email client, and html composer (the package that I used rarely). However, I’m not familiar with this SeaMonkey. So, I need to install it on my new Puppy. Below is my experience installing Firefox on Puppy Linux OS.

You can find firefox installation for PuppyLinux on this wiki. It follows default firefox installation. But on Puppy Linux, Firefox applications ant libraries should be placed on /opt/mozilla.org/lib/firefox-xxx folder. And then making a firefox softlink in directory /root/my-applications/bin/.
